It took me a year and a half since my last one, but I finally got another 700 series. Hadn't had one since the last week of the 2005-2006 season which is when I bowled my 800 as well... I mean I've been bowling decent this season, averaging 204 on my scratch league, 202 on my "fun" friday night league, and 186 on the PBA Experience League thus far so I don't have much to complain about... yet... but it's about time I bowled another 700.
Just ordered the Tropical Storm (Pink & Black) ball about a month ago... maybe longer but I just started using it in the last two weeks and man does that thing hit the pocket hard... for now since I assume it will die down after I put a few games on it. I was struggling on Monday night aiming third arrow out and my spit fire just wouldn't come back.. hell I don't think my special agent was doing any better because I was so off... but after I brought out my TS, aiming between first and 2nd arrow, I went from a 157 game to a 235 game.. and salvaged the next two games for an 807 series for the night (four games), winning two of four and our team took 16 of 24 so it was a decent night though I shoulda done better.
Tuesday night, we were bowling on the Chameleon pattern (2nd week or 3) and I don't remember this pattern being horribly bad during the summer though my current teammates are struggling with it. Then again this summer I averaged 170 and I think I'm doing better with these shots or something... i dunno. I stood left of middle the whole night using my spit fire, shooting around the 3rd or in between the third and fourth arrow and bowled a 622 series for the night. Anytime I can get a 600 on a PBA pattern is a good night for me, and our team was still able to take three games compared to the four or three we'd been losin the last two weeks so hopefully we're back up in first again. My husband on the other hand was struggling along with our other teammate who is supposed to be averaging 190 something in the league... he didn't bring the ball he used the previous week because it didn't work for him, but the damn shot changes from week to week even if it is the same pattern.. and the ball he used I think was the attitude shift or i could be wrong but it was totally cutting in the back end every time coming up high. Should always bring every ball you can with these patterns.
So comes friday... half the league either pre bowled or something cuz it was empty as hell in that bowling alley. Our teammate decided to take his wife gambling for the weekend so we saw one of the dudes we suggested the PBA pattern to and he asked if we needed a sub... hey why not... he's a decent bowler averaging around 209 or something. Anywho... after practice, i didn't think my spit fire or special agent were coming up so I decided to play more outside with the tropical storm. At first I thought it was going to be one of those nights cuz I came up light twice ( I swung the ball too far outside so it was human error, not ball reaction), but once I hit my mark I was on for most of the rest of the night. Wound up bowling a 222, 279, 213... could have done better but I knew I had my 700 after the 8th frame so I lost it... but I'm still happy.
So now that i've found a ball I can use on the outside of the lane, I think I'll be alright. It's a bit stronger than I thought it would be and the layout seems to be stronger than what I asked for... but as long as I keep my speed up with this ball, it's hit the pocket hard... I've never had spinning pins come across the lane to take out the 9 pin like I have with this ball. I just hope it doesn't die anytime soon in case I need it... but we're getting a ball spinner in a couple days so I'll be able to take care of our equipment better as well... and I just baked the oil outta our older balls this afternoon so we'll see how they work on Monday Scratch night.
I think that's all for now... I've already wrote a crap load... but I guess that's allowed since i haven't been here forever! Peace out!
PDW and I this summer when he came for our PBA Experience League and Beat the Pro Night.

Quit focusing on the series and focus on each shot you make. Then the 700 & 800's will come easier. Good luck and roll some more strikes.
