Well after bowling all the damn games we bowled this week (considerring the only night we didn't bowl was wednesday night), my hubby wanted to try entering the King of the Hill event up at the
house we bowl in on Monday and Tuesday nights. At first I'm thinking, why don't you just go and bowl it with that awesome new ball of yours and bring home some dough or something? But I agreed to enter it with him even though I've been confused as to whether I should use a four or five step approach the last four days since I started practicing.
You see... yesterday when we went to practice, I used it the whole night and felt pretty darn comfortable and steadier at the line. Even looked it when I went over the video when we got home... however, I don't know how accurate I can be with it for now so today when we bowled that event, I decided to stick with the four step approach since that's what I'm used to and that's why I've got over a 200 average right now. Considerring that most of the men in the area are bowling in the City tournament this week and next weekend, there weren't a lot who showed up, so maybe that was better for me. However, there were a few people who did show up that I see every monday in our scratch league that I know are pretty good so I figured we'd just do the best we could and see how it goes.
Going into it we didn't even know how the format went. It's handicap, so more people will want to participate, and apparently they draw numbers to see who you go against the entire time and it's double elimination and if you lose two right away or something you have a second chance as well.
So of course the first game I get the one dude who chucks the ball out and averages 220+ I think on our monday night league, and if that's not the case, averages 236 high from last season so he got no sticks. I fortunately got 17 sticks since I averaged 197 high last year so that helps me out hehe I like that I get sticks, I don't care what you say. So anyway... I don't think either of use usually bowls very well our first game.. at least I don't usually on Monday Night cuz my first games add up to my lowest average compared to the next three. Howeverm I think I might've beat him scratch with a 212 and he had probably around a 180 or 190 something so I got through my first game... whew! One down, five to go.
Next I had this other dude who had, I think 6 sticks and was struggling his first game but was finding his shot the last two frames so I thought that since he was staying on the same lanes, he might do better and be a challenge... he did alright at first but couldn't pick up a spare for some reason so I got him pretty easily too with a 213... almost seems like a step ladder huh? Oh wait they don't give awards for that and this isn't sanctioned anyway.
Third game I was bowling against the high average dude on our scratch league on Monday nights (222), and I am a lil intimidated by him but he said he wasn't doing that great today, however he can come back at anytime and shoot in the high 200s so I was a lil worried. When I first started... one of the other guys from Monday night said he might be good but you can get into his head, and said that since I'm currently the high female on our monday night league (there are four or five of us if that), that that mentally is in his head already. I'm thinking... dude, he's the highest average of all of us in that league so I think I should be more worried. So, at first it was looking a lil bad for me until I went out of turn on accident since there were four on each pair... and I got to redo my frame and changed balls cuz I didn't like the reaction of my messenger and it worked well for me. I bowled a 235 and he was somewhere around there but since he has no handicap, I got him too. so on to the fourth round.
We started off on a fresh pair of lanes since the other games were on the same three pairs. Since I started off with my tropical storm the first game, I decided to use it again... and I was probably either getting fatigued or just rushing and missing my mark, cuz I was kind of off this game... then again leaving a few splits here and there don't help either. I lost to this one kid who bowls on our Tuesday night sport league and he opened and almostlet me back in but I didn't strike my first ball 10th frame, and he just about struck out the last frame so I missed a two pin and lost that game... it was my first lost so it was ok. that was a 187 game... my lowest so far.
Fifth game, I was bowling against a dude who just beat the guy I won against in the third game cuz he was stringing strikes... and lemme tell you.. this guy has the most f'd up release but apparently it works for him because he only had 6 sticks. He was doing alright to begin with but I found my shot eventually and he messed up in the end so I beat him with a 201, and that was with an opened tenth frame for me... don't remember what he had.
So then there were three. There had to be a bye this game... and after listening to all these guys say they didn't want the bye... I was like.. "hell... I want it!" I don't mind watching them bowl a game while I take a rest. Since this was my first time entering.. I can't be superstitious about it cuz they said everytime someone gets a bye, they go to the final two and lose. While the other two were fighting it out... it was the dude who beat me that one game and the other dude who had one good game all night but took my hubby out in the previous round... he was only one 10 pin away from advancing but lost =( Anyhow... after seeing the dude who beat me struggling.. I was like good.. I'd rather bowl the other guy who has 6 sticks rather than 20 so that I have an advantage, and That's how it ended up.
So we move to the next fresh pair of lanes and I start with my Tropical Storm again... let's just say I wasn't fairing too well.. I think I missed a 3-6-10 spair cuz of my stupid spit fire.. then when I had a double wood 3-9 spare I adjusted from my last shot and missed it left and had two early opens. Then doubled and started struggling again... I switched to my Special Agent and that didn't fair well either cuz I was swinging out too far unlike my 235 game when I used it last time. Sooo... I thought I was done cuz the other guy was doing more consistent than me. My hubby said I'm going to need some help to take this game. let's just say, the other guy choked the last two frames by missed a 2 pin in the 9th frame and leaving a split in the 10th so I got a miracle handed to me somehow. He said something like... "there you go"... and I was like "yeah right", I still need to mark and anything can happen at this point.. I've gotten splits just like him when I knew all I needed was good count. I asked my hubby what ball he thinks I should use because I was struggling so bad... he asked me if I was serious and I said yes... apparently I never ask him these kind of questions so he was questioning whether I was being sarcastic or not. I'm thinking to myself... "do you want me to win or not... if you do.. help me out" So he told me to use my Tropical... doesn't know why I switched balls to begin with but didn't say anything to me when I did... so I struck my first ball and got a 9/ count and was good... I thought I needed my spare to tie that last frame.. but it ended with me bowling a 167 and him a 168 and I won by 10 because of my sticks.
So here I am, thinking how crappy I bowled that last game, but everyone else is saying... hey... you won it.. and that's all you needed to win so stop getting down on yourself. I guess I can look at my other five games and say I did well enough to get myself to that point by averaging 209 for those five games, so I didn't do that bad... I did what I had to do... AND I DONT THINK I CAN DO IT AGAIN! hehe I hate pressure but I know it makes you a better bowler so we may start going to ABT in the near future.. switch weeks cuz we just can't afford both of us bowling it every week.. it expensive enough both of us bowling three nights a week.
The chick that works there came up to me before the final game anad told me she really wanted me to win that game cuz for once she wanted to put a sign up on the wall... "QUEEN OF THE HILL" instead of king of the hill... so you can now refer to me as Queen of the Hill for the month! woohooo!!! my hubby is proud of me.. at least one of us won... we had 2x better chance than anyone else... next time he can get it... maybe next month and we can claim it two months in a row. If only.
Anyway, that's my speal for the day... I had a good day... really don't think I won that much money with only 16 entries, but hey... I finally won something and get my name up on the wall! Have had that happen since I bowled my 300 and 800 almost two years ago exactly. Will see how much I get tomorrow when we bowl in our scratch league. I gotta finish desperate housewives right after this football game is over... so I'm out. Night!
Oh.. just so I can give my hubby credit.. he bowled a 212 average for his first five games but lost with his low game of 183 =(... did great his first four though with that new ball of his so I'm proud of him... and he beat that guy I beat my first game, so we took him out of the tourney... not many people like to see that guy move on so we got some high fives hehe
K seriously... I'm gone this time. Bye!
